I was born and grew up in Viet Nam during my first seventeen years of age. While I was there, my life only involves with school works and houseworks. There was not much interest in my part into Church’s activities at the time. After I had finished my school, I left the country to study abroad in US. Here, I met my host-father in Michigan: a very active member of his non-denomination Church. His example helped me reflect on my role and attitude toward my Catholic faith. After my graduation from high school, I came to Houston to continue my study. Here, I met my aunt for the first time. Her life of faith has been encouraging me to learn and deepen my faith and enkindle in me a desire to serve the Church. One day, while was attending a mass at Lady of Lourdes, an SVD missionary delivered an inspiring homily about vocation. The sense of welcome which he offered in his homily stirred in me the desire to experience missionary life. After having spent three days with the religious order, I applied and have been there with them since then until Summer 2014. My time with the SVD confirms my vocation in serving the Church in an oriented way toward the poor and the marginalized. Last summer, I decided to join the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Though the formation here is quite different from that of my former religious life, I have been learning and gradually adjusted to it. The formation toward priesthood challenges me in all respects of my life: spirituality, education, human growth and pastoral ministry. There are times I felt stretched out but these are the best moments which helped me to learn more about myself and my faith. In my opinion, the formation toward the priesthood here can be sum up as: know thyself and abide with God. This brings me to my favorite Scriptural book: the book of Job. From this book, I realize that need to acknowledgemyself the need to be dependent on God and thus follow God’s will in loving God and others.
